Lately I have been listening to the two albums by Bottomless Pit, the group the surviving members of Silkworm formed after their drummer was killed.  Women's 'Public Strain' and James Blake's forthcoming full-length.  Jason Trahan sent me a huge box of Urbo Sleeks CDs, so I've been having daily listenings to 'Near the Water.'  Vince Guraldi 'Charlie Brown Christmas' and some Bill Callahan/Smog.

I just watched "The Town". (Great movie.) The song at the end is beautiful. "Jolene" by Ray LaMontagne. First thing I've heard by him that really grabbed me. Gorgeous.

That movie looks good.  It probably could have been helped by a more compelling title.

I've been listening to Horslips a lot lately.

As much as they've been compared to Jethro Tull, I really like their songcraft. Even at the point when they started becoming more commercial (Aliens in particular, not as much on The Man Who Built America, though that title cut I like).

And on "Dearg Doom", the collection of riffs from Johnny Fean are solid IMO.

I have been listening to the new PJ Harvey a lot.  The best thing I've heard besides that is this gal who sounds kinda like PJ Harvey called Anna Calvi.  Her record is pretty awesome.

I'm also digging the Anna Calvi. And the PJ Harvey. She continues to impress me with the width of her musical range and her fearlessness to release new-sounding things. Admittedly, though, I still like "Dry" the most.

There is a band that is a Ween cover band, oddly enough here in this small city with a population of 30,000. The name of the band is Code Brown, and they are very committed to the material.
